Cellulite Massage: One type of therapy that is commonly used to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Massage is done using moist heat, the therapists hands and may include specialized tools. Cellulite is a type of fat that is close to the surface of the skin. The fat cells are pressed against the underlying skin structure, which leads to a distinctive "cottage cheese" appearance. Cellulite is most apparent on the hips, thighs and stomach. Results vary and may not be typical. It’s recommended that you drink plenty of water, half your body weight in ounces two days before and the day of your appointment to help flush fat after your massage.
Prenatal/Pregnancy: Offers drug free relief of muscle aches and pains. Promotes relaxation, reduces edema, promotes circulation, soothes nerves, and relieves strained back and leg muscles in expectant mothers. Especially beneficial in the second and third trimester, when the extra weight of the belly puts a strain on the back. A session typically lasts 90 minutes to make any necessary adjustments for the mother. Extra pillows are used for added comfort. Your physicians permission to massage is required. For your convenience you can print a physician permission form located in the client forms tab of the home page. Have your physician fill it out prior to your massage appointment and fax it to us at 304-860-1931.
Myofascial Release: A manipulative treatment that attempts to release tension in the fascia due to trauma, posture, or inflammation. Connective tissues called fascia surround the muscles, bones, nerves, and organs of the body.
Neuromuscular Technique (AKA Trigger Point Therapy): A specialized form of deep tissue massage in which digital pressure and friction are used to release areas of strain in the muscle. These areas of strain are called tender or trigger points and are the cause of muscular pain symptoms.
Reflexology: A non-intrusive complementary health therapy of applying pressure to areas on the feet and hands corresponding with organs and systems in different areas of the body. The theory behind reflexology is that there are certain points or "reflex areas" on the feet and hands that are connected energetically to specific organs and body parts through energy channels in the body. By applying pressure to reflex areas, a reflexologist is said to remove energy blockages and promote health in the related body area. It is generally relaxing and may be an effective way to alleviate stress.
